An Arkansas man has been charged with sex assault after an investigation into two incidents involving an adult female victim in West Hawaii.

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 6:28 p.m., South Kohala patrol officers responded to a condominium complex in the Waikoloa area after receiving a report of a sexual assault involving an adult female.

During the investigation, police learned that Timothy Efird of Hot Springs, Ark., had reportedly sexually assaulted the victim on two separate occasions.

One incident reportedly occurred during the early morning hours of July 31 at a residence in Kailua-Kona, while the second occurred in the morning of Aug. 4 at a condominium in the Waikoloa area.

At 7:48 p.m. on Aug. 4, South Kohala patrol officers located Efird and placed him under arrest as detectives continued the investigation.

Efird was subsequently charged on Thursday, Aug. 6, with first-degree sexual assault and second-degree sexual assault. His bail was set at $300,000.

His initial court date was Friday, Aug. 7, in Kona District Court.
