Kamehameha-Hawaii girls volleyball has gotten off to a blistering start to the 2026 season.

The Warriors kicked things off over the weekend by competing in the LeeAnn DeLima Volleyball Classic hosted by fellow sister school KS-Maui on Maui.

In the best-of-three-sets tournament, KSH defeated Pearl City in the championship match after falling 25-20 in the opening set to Pearl City — winning the final two frames 25-13 and 15-8.

En route to the title stage, the Warriors swept Pearl City, Maui High, Konawaena and Island School, and then saw Maui once more in the quarterfinals, winning in a 25-18, 25-13 sweep. KSH took on KS-Maui in the semis, sweeping 25-20, 25-23.

The Warriors then returned home to the Big Island to take on Honoka‘a on the road to open the BIIF season, sweeping 25-14, 25-19 and 25-21.

Senior Kdynse Apaka and sophomore Sienna Frederick tallied six kills apiece to lead the winners.

Freshman Navy Yamauchi added five aces.

KSH will next host Kealakehe tonight in its home opener.

In Kea‘au, Kanu o ka ‘Aina got off on the right foot to start its season, sweeping Christian Liberty Academy 26-24, 25-16 and 26-24 to propel to 1-0 in 2026.

Kanu will face DII powerhouse Hawaii Prep inside Castle Gymnasium tonight, while the Canefire next take on Ka‘u this evening.

Fellow east-side powerhouse Waiakea also opened its season Monday, sweeping Kea‘au 25-17, 25-13 and 25-16 on the road.

The Warriors, now 1-0, will take on Parker on Wednesday in Hilo.

The Cougars will face KSH on Thursday.

Vulcans fall to
No. 16 Alaska

Hawaii Hilo women’s volleyball fell to No. 16 Alaska in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium to close out the Hawaii-Alaska Challenge.

It was the Vulcans’ first loss of the early season and flipped Friday’s outcome — a four-set victory over the 16th-ranked Nanooks. Saturday’s matchups were determined based on the five teams’ records (Hawaii Hilo: 2-0, Alaska: 2-1, Chaminade: 1-1, Alaska Anchorage: 1-1, HPU 0-2) through the first two days of the season-opening event. With the win, Alaska claimed winning rights to the 2026 Hawaii-Alaska Challenge.

Alohi Garcia and Kaliko Kealoha each finished with 10 kills to lead the Vulcans. LC Nakagawa totaled 11 digs and Maiah Kalima had 10. ‘Anolani Santos finished with 29 assists.

Haylee Lyons led Alaska with 12 kills while Cynphany Henderson finished with 18 assists.

Garcia and Santos were both named to the All-Tournament Team while Alaska’s Haylee Lyons was named MVP. Other honorees: Tessa Onaga (Alaska), Lee Ivakina (Alaska Anchorage), Lillie Hinton (Chaminade), Sofia Cooper (HPU).

The Vulcans opened the weekend with a thrilling five-set victory over Alaska Anchorage on Thursday night before defeating Alaska in four sets the following night.

Hawaii Hilo starters for all three matches were: Logan Bluetreich, Alohi Garcia, Maiah Kalima, Kaliko Kealoha, Chase Koepke, LC Nakagawa, ‘Anolani Santos.

The Vulcans (2-1) next take on Menlo at 7 a.m. HST Friday in the FPU Sunbird Classic in Fresno, Calif.

Later that day at 1 p.m., Hawaii Hilo takes on Stanislaus State.
