Bercan finishes No. 18 at NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Dylan Bercan closed with a two-under 70 to finish five-under and land in a five-way tie for No. 18 at the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Wednesday.

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Dylan Bercan closed with a two-under 70 to finish five-under and land in a five-way tie for No. 18 at the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Wednesday.

The minus-five finish is the best score posted by a Vulcan at a National Championships event following Nick Mason’s plus-seven score in 2004 (No. 4) and minus-four card in 2005 (runner-up).

After back-to-back bogeys on Holes 11 and 12 to go three-over, Bercan responded with an eagle on the par-five 13th hole followed by three consecutive birdies to go two-under through the final round. Bercan finished with one eagle, four birdies and four bogeys on the day. The senior entered the day tied for 15th after shooting a four-under 68 in Round 2.

The back-to-back PacWest Conference Champion qualified for the national tournament as an individual after tying for fourth at the South Central/West Regional, placing among the top two individuals not affiliated with a qualifying team.

USC Beaufort’s Octavio Laurent, competing as an individual, won medalist honors at 17-under with a nine-under final round of 63.

No. 3 Florida Southern led the team standings at 35-under and is joined by No. 35 Missouri-St. Louis (-27), No. 4 Wingate (-25), No. 2 Lee (-18), No. 6 Georgia Southern (-17), No. 8 Columbus State (-16), Cal State San Bernardino (-10) and No. 23 Colorado Christian (-9) in advancing to the single-elimination head-to-head match play bracket to determine a National Champion.

Fun facts

• Mason (2004) and Bercan (2026) are the only two Vulcans to have competed as individuals at the NCAA National Championships.

• Vulcans have made three team appearances in the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships: 2005 (No. 5), 2011 (No. 12), 2014 (No. 13).
