Shohei Ohtani drove in five runs with a late triple and double, Justin Wrobleski combined with three relievers on an eight-hitter and the Los Angeles Dodgers took advantage of Jose Soriano\u2019s wildness to wallop the Los Angeles Angels 15-2 on Saturday night in the second game of their rivalry series in Anaheim, Calif.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers did all but one run of their season-high scoring in three innings, with Ohtani doing all his damage in a four-run eighth and five-run ninth.<\/p>\n

While the game was still competitive, Alex Call had the only hit of a five-run sixth, a two-run single, helping the Dodgers pull away 24 hours after they had opened the three-game set with a 6-0 victory.<\/p>\n

Ohtani walked and scored on Will Smith\u2019s sacrifice fly in the first inning for the game\u2019s only scoring until the decisive sixth.<\/p>\n

After getting Ohtani on a grounder to second to lead off the sixth, Soriano (6-3) walked Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman before hitting Smith to load the bases.<\/p>\n

Two more walks \u2014 to Andy Pages and Max Muncy \u2014 produced runs and also ended Soriano\u2019s night, one in which he allowed just one hit in 5 1\/3 innings.<\/p>\n

Reliever Chase Silseth plunked Teoscar Hernandez to force in the inning\u2019s third run, and Call followed with his two-RBI single to make it 6-0.<\/p>\n

Jo Adell\u2019s two-run double in the bottom of the inning got the Angels on the scoreboard, but that\u2019s all they got against Wrobleski (6-1) in his six innings. Coming off his worst outing and only loss of the season, 7-2 last Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, the left-hander limited the Angels to two runs and seven hits, walking one and striking out five.<\/p>\n

Soriano was charged with six runs in his 5 1\/3 innings. He walked six and struck out six.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers blew the game open in the eighth when Ohtani tripled into the right-field corner, scoring two runs, and raced home when right fielder Adell\u2019s throw eluded his cutoff man for an error. Betts then followed with a home run, his fourth, to make it 10-2.<\/p>\n

In an inning that ended with infielder Adam Frazier on the mound, the Dodgers reached the 15-run mark in the ninth, capped by Ohtani\u2019s three-run double.<\/p>\n

Muncy scored three times for the Dodgers, who have won four in a row, while Ohtani, Betts, Smith and Pages scored twice apiece.<\/p>\n

Schmitt, Giants
\ndominate Athletics pitching in victory<\/p>\n

Casey Schmitt hit two homers for the second time in his career and finished with four hits and three RBIs to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 6-4 victory over the Athletics on Saturday night at West Sacramento, Calif.<\/p>\n

The four-hit outing was the fourth of Schmitt\u2019s career and it helped the Giants halt a three-game losing streak. Willy Adames had three hits and two RBI and Rafael Devers and Drew Gilbert added two hits apiece for San Francisco, which had 14 overall, eight for extra bases.<\/p>\n

Trevor McDonald (2-0) allowed one run and five hits over 6 2\/3 innings for the Giants. He struck out five and walked one.<\/p>\n

San Francisco\u2019s Matt Gage worked a perfect ninth for his first save.<\/p>\n

Brent Rooker hit a three-run homer and joined Darell Hernaiz in having two hits for the Athletics, who lost for the fourth time in their past six games.<\/p>\n

Luis Severino (2-5) gave up five runs and 10 hits over six innings. He struck out seven and walked two while dropping to 3-11 in 19 starts at Sutter Health Park since joining the A\u2019s prior to last season.<\/p>\n

Schmitt hit a full-count sweeper from Severino over the wall in left with two out in the first to give San Francisco the lead for good.<\/p>\n

The Giants loaded the bases with one out in the third when Jung Hoo Lee singled, Luis Arraez drew a walk and Schmitt singled. After Devers struck out, Adames knocked in two runs but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.<\/p>\n

Arraez walked with one out in the fifth before Schmitt went the opposite way. He hit a first-pitch cutter from Severino off the right-field foul pole to make it 5-0.<\/p>\n

The Athletics got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Lawrence Butler walked and moved to third on a single by Hernaiz and scored on Jeff McNeil\u2019s fielder\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n

In the seventh, Devers led off with a double and scored later in the inning on Matt Chapman\u2019s double.<\/p>\n

The Athletics closed the gap in the eighth as Nick Kurtz and Shea Langeliers led off the inning with walks against Erik Miller. One out later, Caleb Kilian replaced the left-hander and Rooker came up and drilled a first-pitch slider well over the wall in left to pull the A\u2019s within 6-4.<\/p>\n

Kilian recovered by striking out the next two hitters.<\/p>\n

The walk stretched Kurtz\u2019s streak of reaching base to 39 consecutive games, the longest by an A\u2019s player since Jason Giambi reached in 39 straight in both the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Mark McGwire had a 48-game streak in 1996.<\/p>\n

Padres go up early,
\nimprove to 5-0 against Mariners<\/p>\n

Gavin Sheets, Nick Castellanos and rookie Rodolfo Duran homered as the San Diego Padres defeated the host Seattle Mariners 7-4 on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Padres improved to 5-0 against Seattle this season.<\/p>\n

Right-hander Walker Buehler (3-2) went five innings for the victory. <\/p>\n

He allowed two runs on five hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada worked the ninth for his first save of the season.<\/p>\n

J.P. Crawford homered for the Mariners.<\/p>\n

The Padres opened the scoring in the top of the second as Sheets led off with a homer to right field.<\/p>\n

With one out in the fourth, Manny Machado and Sheets drew back-to-back walks off Mariners starter Logan Gilbert, and Xander Bogaerts lined a single to left to load the bases. Miguel Andujar grounded into a forceout to third base, with Machado scoring on the play. Castellanos hit the next pitch over the wall in left-center field to make it 5-0.<\/p>\n

The Mariners got on the board in the bottom of the inning as Josh Naylor led off with a single to right and Randy Arozarena walked. With one out, Cole Young lined a run-scoring single to right.<\/p>\n

Crawford went deep to right with one out in the fifth, his solo shot pulling Seattle within 5-2. Despite his pitch count reaching 101, Buehler was able to get through the inning to qualify for the victory.<\/p>\n

With two outs in the seventh, Ramon Laureano doubled to right-center and Duran followed his first major league hit in his fourth game \u2014 a two-run shot to left \u2014 to extend San Diego\u2019s lead to 7-2 and end Gilbert\u2019s night.<\/p>\n

Gilbert (2-4) allowed seven runs on five hits over 6 2\/3 innings. The right-hander walked two and fanned five.<\/p>\n

The Mariners pulled within 7-4 in the eighth. Julio Rodriguez led off with a single and stole second. Naylor walked, and a double steal put runners on second and third. Rodriguez scored on Arozarena\u2019s infield single and Naylor came home on a groundout by Young.<\/p>\n

Rodriguez robbed Duran of a second two-run homer with a leaping catch at the wall in right-center to end the top of the ninth.<\/p>\n

Seattle manager Dan Wilson was ejected by first-base umpire Chad Fairchild in the fourth inning for arguing a check-swing call.<\/p>\n

Mariners third baseman Brendan Donovan and catcher Mitch Garver were both late scratches from the starting lineup. No immediate word was available for their absences.<\/p>\n

Murakami,
\nWhite Sox blast
\nway past Cubs<\/p>\n

Munetaka Murakami hit two home runs to lead a five-homer barrage and right-hander Davis Martin delivered six strong innings as the host Chicago White Sox defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-3 on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The White Sox regrouped from Friday\u2019s 10-5 loss to even the crosstown series at one game apiece while improving to 6-2 on a nine-game homestand.<\/p>\n

Murakami, in his first major league season, highlighted the power display with his first career multi-homer game. Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery each went deep for the second straight night while Andrew Benintendi contributed his first round-tripper since April 23.<\/p>\n

Miguel Amaya had two hits for the Cubs, including a solo homer. Pete Crow-Armstrong capped the scoring with a two-run blast in the ninth.<\/p>\n

Vargas vaulted the White Sox to an early lead with a three-run shot in the first, jumping on a 1-1 pitch from Cubs starter Jameson Taillon.<\/p>\n

Murakami drilled a solo shot to center with one out in the third. Montgomery followed with a solo home run two batters later.<\/p>\n

Murakami stretched the advantage to 7-0 with a two-run blast in the fifth, his American League-leading 17th home run of the season. Benintendi chased Taillon from the game with a solo shot to open the sixth.<\/p>\n

Martin (6-1) retired the first nine Cubs before Nico Hoerner singled to lead off the fourth. Amaya led off the sixth with a solo shot and the Cubs put two men in scoring position with one out before Martin escaped further trouble with strikeouts of Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki.<\/p>\n

Martin spaced one run and five hits in six innings with zero walks and seven strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Taillon fell to 2-3 after allowing a career-high five homers. He yielded eight runs on eight hits in five innings with one walk and two strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Alex Bregman and Amaya both had two hits for the Cubs, who left seven men on base.<\/p>\n

Sam Antonacci, Murakami and Benintendi had two hits each for the White Sox.<\/p>\n

The game was delayed 13 minutes in the bottom of the fourth after home-plate umpire Brian O\u2019Nora took a Jarred Kelenic foul ball off the mask near his jaw. O\u2019Nora left the game to undergo further testing. Erich Bacchus took his place behind the plate.\n<\/p>\n
