Despite the early-meet weather delays, dozens of Big Island athletes ventured to Oahu last weekend to compete in the HHSAA Island Movers Track and Field State Championships, and two Konawaena Wildcats highlighted the bunch with gold-medal performances.<\/p>\n

Despite the early-meet weather delays, dozens of Big Island athletes ventured to Oahu last weekend to compete in the HHSAA Island Movers Track and Field State Championships, and two Konawaena Wildcats highlighted the bunch with gold-medal performances.<\/p>\n

Senior Violet Schaut closed her storied high school track career by placing first in the girls 100-meter (12.03s) and 200-meter dashes (24.45s). Schaut was also part of the Wildcats\u2019 relay team that placed second in the 4\u00d7100 race, finishing with a time of 48.34 seconds.<\/p>\n

The win for Schaut in the 200 came as extra sweet, as the star runner placed second in last year\u2019s race. She finished her senior campaign with 16 total wins across the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes.<\/p>\n

Joining Schaut in collecting gold was teammate Paxton Sokham, who won the boys 400 with a personal-best time of 49.05 seconds. His sibling, Aden Sokham, placed third in the same event (49.43s). The Sokham siblings also placed first in the 4\u00d7400-meter relay, racing in 3:22.83.<\/p>\n

Aden Sokham was additionally part of the other winning Wildcats relay team \u2014 finishing in 42.38 seconds in the 4\u00d7100.<\/p>\n

Kamehameha-Hawaii junior Isaiah Kanae had an impressive weekend, placing in the top 10 in three different events \u2014 third in the boys triple jump (13.56m), fifth in high jump (1.85m) and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.02s). His triple-jump performance was a personal-best mark.<\/p>\n

Kanae\u2019s teammate, Alyssa Hudman, placed seventh in the girls 300-meter hurdles. The senior placed in the top 10 in the event nine times in 2026. Teammate Tanoatoa Muskat placed sixth in the boys 400 (50.33s) and ninth in the 200 (23.10s).<\/p>\n

HPA was led by Philipp Gerstengarbe in the individual races, placing third in the boys 3,000 with a time of 9:09.11. Teammate Kirra Geesey clinched a top-10 finish in the girls 800 (2:23.25), 1,500 (5:02.01) and was part of the Ka Makani second-place relay team in the 4\u00d7800 (9:56.70).<\/p>\n

Kealakehe sophomore speedster Zadie Bolton placed eighth in the girls 3,000 (11:02.33) and 10th in the 1,500 (5:02.19). Teammate Lily Marshall finished 10th in the girls 800 (2:25.72).<\/p>\n

Highlighting the field events was Kohala junior Mari Ontoveros, who placed second in the girls shot put after launching a maximum throw of 11.72 meters. Hilo\u2019s Legacy Leialoha placed eighth in the boys shot put with a top throw of 14.50 meters.<\/p>\n

KSH senior Kaimanamaikalani Bowman placed fourth in the boys pole vault after a leap of 4.24 meters. Kealakehe\u2019s Alaska Delangen (3.37m) and Waiakea\u2019s Keiari Weaver (3.07m) each placed in the top 10 of the girls pole vault, respectively.<\/p>\n

Hilo\u2019s Wai Krismunando placed 10th in the girls discus (33.80m), while KSH\u2019s Chanse Kaaua-Long (50.29m) and Hilo\u2019s Kekoa Nakooka (43.00m) placed second and seventh in the boys, respectively.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top field finishers was Konawaena junior Kea Sanders, who won bronze in the boys long jump (6.75m). Winning BIIFs in the event on May 9, Sanders placed in the top three in six of the seven long jump events he competed in this season.<\/p>\n

Konawaena and KSH placed in the top 10 in the boys team competition, while the Wildcats also placed in the top 10 in the girls contest.<\/p>\n
