HILO \u2014 Four Waiakea baseball stars inked their letters of intent to play at the next level during the school\u2019s spring signing ceremony Thursday on Warrior campus.<\/p>\n

All four players played key roles in Waiakea\u2019s island title and deep state run, which ended in an HHSAA semifinal berth. The team finished the year with a 12-2 overall record, including a perfect 11-0 against the BIIF.<\/p>\n

\u201cExtremely proud of all of them, and I\u2019m confident they will make a positive impact in our community in the future,\u201d head coach Chris Honda told the paper.<\/p>\n

Right fielder Jerrell Alston signed with Sacramento State after leading the Warriors in hits (13), runs (12), home runs (2) and RBI (12). <\/p>\n

The Hornets are an esteemed NCAA Division-I program, and they play in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).<\/p>\n

Alston hit the iconic grand slam late in last month\u2019s BIIF Division I Championship against Kamehameha-Hawaii, which put Waiakea in the driver\u2019s seat to close out the game. <\/p>\n

The 6-foot-4 Alston logged a season-high four hits against Konawaena on April 15 \u2014 also hitting .464 on the year.<\/p>\n

Alston\u2019s services will be valuable for his new program, as the Hornets currently sit 27-31 overall and 10-8 against the conference (as of early Friday afternoon). Honda told the paper that Alston will have some major league scouts following him in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re keeping our fingers crossed,\u201d Honda said.<\/p>\n

Infielder and designated hitter Axel Akau signed with Yavapai College \u2014 a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division-I program in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC). The 6-foot-5 phenom finished the year with a .391 batting average, including a season-high 3-hit performance against KSH on March 9.<\/p>\n

Akau\u2019s hitting will be useful to a Roughriders\u2019 team that is lacking offense. As of Friday afternoon, Yavapai has a 17-27 overall record.<\/p>\n

Infielder Jesse Inouye and pitcher and infielder Hurley Soong both signed to William Jessup University \u2014 an NCAA Division-II program in the Pacific West Conference. <\/p>\n

The pair\u2019s new program is currently 27-21 and 23-19 against the conference.<\/p>\n

Inouye was one of the Warriors\u2019 top hitters in 2026 \u2014 leading the team in doubles and triples while hitting .462. He finished with four multi-hit games, including a two-hit, two-run performance in the BIIF championship.<\/p>\n

On the mound, Soong finished with a 4-1 record, 1.45 ERA and 27 strikeouts. The senior pitched 5.0 innings in the BIIF title game, striking out four in the 6-2 win. Soong also logged three games with multiple hits this season, including a two-hit game against Moanalua in the state quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

Waiakea outfielder Cole Silva also intends to sign with Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), but was not at Thursday\u2019s signing event. PLU is an NCAA Division-III program in the Northwest Conference (NWC). The Lutes currently post a 14-24 record.<\/p>\n
