He gave up one run on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Starting in the cleanup spot for the first time since 2017, Betts homered in the first inning and had his first multi-homer game since May 19, 2025. He finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs.

Pages, moved up to the No. 2 spot for the first time this season, tied his career high with four hits.

Hunter Goodman, Brett Sullivan and Kyle Karros hit home runs for the Rockies. Left-hander Kyle Freeland (1-6) gave up season highs of eight hits and nine runs over four innings. He struck out four without issuing a walk.

Colorado lost its fourth consecutive game and fell for the seventh time in the past eight contests.

The Dodgers jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning when Betts hit a home run to center off Freeland.

Goodman pulled a run back for the Rockies in the second with a leadoff home run to center.

The Dodgers began to distance themselves in the third when Hernandez hit a leadoff home run and Pages went deep two batters later for a 4-1 lead. Hernandez was playing in his second game of the season after returning Monday from offseason elbow surgery, but he left the Tuesday game after the fourth inning because of a strained left oblique.

Hernandez is headed back to the injured list, manager Dave Roberts said postgame, adding, “It’s not a season-ending thing.”

The Dodgers scored four more times in the fourth when Miguel Rojas came home on a wild pitch, Pages hit a two-run double and Freddie Freeman hit a sacrifice fly. Rojas (double) and Hyeseong Kim (sacrifice fly) brought home runs in the fifth.

Betts added a two-run homer and Smith delivered a three-run shot in the sixth for Los Angeles, which tied its season highs for runs and hits (17).

Sullivan and Karros hit home runs in the Rockies’ five-run ninth against Rojas, who moved to the mound from third base.

Trio of solo
HRs help Phillies down Padres

Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto and Trea Turner blasted solo homers in the first three innings Tuesday night as the visiting Philadelphia Phillies held on for a 4-3 win over the San Diego Padres.

Given that kind of early support, Aaron Nola (3-4) cruised through six innings, allowing three hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts. Over the past five games, or one complete turn through its rotation, Philadelphia starters have yielded only four runs in 32 1/3 innings (1.11 ERA).

Randy Vasquez (5-3) endured his second straight ineffective outing, permitting four runs on eight hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings while fanning two. It was the third straight loss for San Diego.

Vasquez experienced frightful difficulties early finishing off innings. After getting two outs on five pitches to start the first inning, he left a cutter over the inside corner to Harper, who lined it an estimated 361 feet into the right field seats for his 13th homer.

Realmuto made it 2-0 in the second when he pounced on a breaking ball down and in to rip his second homer of the season into the second level of the Western Metal Supply building with two outs.

And after Vasquez got the first two outs of the third, Turner belted a 434-foot shot over the left field wall, his sixth. The Phillies tacked on another run in the inning via an RBI single by Alec Bohm.

Nola mowed down the first 11 men he faced until Gavin Sheets reached on an infield single in the fourth. Manny Machado promptly sliced the lead in half, lining his ninth homer of the year into the first row of the left field bleachers.

Ramon Laureano cracked a leadoff homer off reliever Brad Keller in the eighth to bring San Diego within a run. Pressing the issue, the Padres put the tying and go-ahead runs on with two outs before Keller induced a check-swing groundout from Machado.

Jhoan Duran breezed through San Diego in the ninth, striking out the last two hitters for his 11th save.

Kyle Harrison extends streak as Brewers blank Cardinals

Garrett Mitchell and Jake Bauers homered while Kyle Harrison delivered six strong innings to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-0 win over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.

Harrison (5-1) allowed four hits over six innings, walking none and striking two. He earned a fifth win in his past six starts and his made third straight scoreless start, running his shutout streak to 18 innings.

Acquired in a February trade with Boston, Harrison owns a 1.57 ERA through his first 10 starts with the Brewers. That’s the best mark after a starter’s first 10 outings in franchise history, surpassing CC Sabathia’s 1.59 ERA in 2008.

Grant Anderson, Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill finished with a scoreless inning apiece to cap off Milwaukee’s fourth shutout win of the season, two of which have come in the past week.

Christian Yelich went 3-for-5 and William Contreras and Bauers each had two hits for the Brewers, who have won the first two games of the three-game series.

Bryan Torres collected two of the Cardinals’ seven hits, but St. Louis didn’t have an extra-base hit. The Cardinals finished 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position, stranding seven runners while losing for the fifth time in six games.

St. Louis starter Michael McGreevy navigated three scoreless innings before Bauers led off the fourth with his eighth homer.

The Brewers blew the game open in the fifth inning with a five-run explosion. After Yelich doubled, Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang walked to load the bases. Contreras brought home Yelich and Chourio with a double to right-center that chased McGreevy.

After Ryan Fernandez struck out the first batter he faced, Mitchell smashed a 421-foot homer, his third, to center, doubling the Brewers’ lead to 6-0.

McGreevy (3-4) allowed five runs on seven hits over four-plus innings. He walked three and struck out six, taking his second straight loss.

The Cardinals’ best chance to get back into the game came in the eighth inning, when Ivan Herrera drew a two-out walk and Jordan Walker followed with a infield single. Uribe struck out Alec Burleson looking, a call that was held up after an ABS challenge, to end the threat.

Read more BIIF golf: Saito, Nakagawa named Players of the Year

Yankees bash
6 homers,
24 hits in 15-1 rout of Royals

Amed Rosario hit two of the Yankees’ six home runs as visiting New York beat the Kansas City Royals for a 14th straight time, including playoff games, 15-1 on Tuesday night.

New York’s Cody Bellinger, Anthony Volpe, Trent Grisham and Jazz Chisholm Jr. also went deep. Rosario had four hits and four RBIs, and the homer-hitting quintet combined for 12 RBIs. Grisham, Volpe, Ben Rice and Austin Wells each had three of the Yankees’ 24 hits.

It was the first time in Yankees history that all nine starters had at least two hits.

That was more than enough offense for Cam Schlittler, who allowed one run over six strong innings. He yielded only Bobby Witt Jr.’s third-inning homer while lowering his ERA to 1.50. Schlittler (7-2) gave up four hits while striking out six without a walk.

Winners of three straight, New York has not lost to Kansas City since Game 2 of the 2024 American League Division Series. Overall, the Royals have lost 14 of their past 19 games.

Royals opener Bailey Falter (0-2) got the first two Yankees hitters out on two pitches. Bellinger sent the fourth pitch of the game over the right field fence.

Paul Goldschmidt then doubled and scored on a single by Rice that was originally called a catch by Royals right fielder Jac Caglianone, but overturned via a New York challenge. Rosario capped the four-run first with a two-run drive into the left field stands.

The Yankees added a run in the second, when Volpe’s drive barely cleared the left-center-field wall. They made it 9-0 with four more runs in the third, two charged to Falter, who exited with one out in the inning. New York got an RBI single to left from Volpe, a run-scoring groundout from Grisham and Bellinger’s single that plated a pair.

Falter allowed seven runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings. He had no strikeouts and no walks.

Schlittler, meanwhile, was cruising until Witt went the opposite direction, clearing the right field fence with two outs in the third.

Aaron Judge got in on the fun in the fifth with an RBI double. Grisham’s solo shot came in the seventh against Steven Cruz. Chisholm became the last Yankees starter with a hit when he went deep during a two-run eighth, and Rosario clubbed a two-run homer off position player Tyler Tolbert in the ninth.

Sanchez’s grand slam propels Blue Jays to
rout of Marlins

Jesus Sanchez hit his first career grand slam to key a six-run sixth inning Tuesday night as the host Toronto Blue Jays defeated his former team, the Miami Marlins, 8-1.

Ernie Clement and Yohendrick Pinango also homered for the Blue Jays, who have split the first two of a three-game series with the Marlins.

Toronto’s George Springer had three hits and an RBI and was hit by a pitch.

The Blue Jays had lost their two previous games before snapping the Marlins’ four-game winning streak on Tuesday.

Clement led off the second inning with his second homer in as many games on a first-pitch sinker from Sandy Alcantara (3-4), extending his hitting streak to nine games.

Toronto doubled the lead in the third. Daulton Varsho singled with one out and stopped at third on a double off the left field wall by Sanchez. Kazuma Okamoto followed with an RBI single that was deflected into left field by third baseman Javier Sanoja.

Miami scored once in the fifth against Spencer Miles (2-0), who entered the game after opener Braydon Fisher threw one shutout inning.

Jakob Marsee singled to left, took third on a stolen base and a throwing error and scored on Heriberto Hernandez’s infield hit to shortstop.

Alcantara worked around two hit batters in the bottom of the inning.

Miles allowed one run, three hits and one walk while striking out three in 4 1/3 innings.

Pinango led off the sixth with a line-drive home run to center. Brandon Valenzuela singled with two outs, and Lenyn Sosa was hit by a pitch. Springer lined an RBI single off shortstop Otto Lopez’s glove.

Varsho walked to load the bases, and Sanchez smoked a first-pitch fastball to right for his grand slam. Before departing, Alcantara hit Okamoto with a pitch, a career-high fourth hit batter of the game, none by fastballs.

Alcantara allowed eight runs on 10 hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. missed his second straight game after being hit by a pitch on the right elbow on Sunday.

Lee’s 3-run, 11th-inning doubles lifts Twins past White Sox

Brooks Lee delivered a go-ahead, bases-clearing double in the 11th inning among his two hits, boosting the visiting Minnesota Twins to a 5-3 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

Kody Clemens and Austin Martin also drove in runs for Minnesota, which won for the fifth time in six games while stopping a seven-game losing streak to Chicago dating to last season.

Four Minnesota relievers combined on 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball after starter Joe Ryan worked 7 2/3 sharp innings. Yoendrys Gomez notched his third save despite permitting Chase Meidroth’s RBI single in the bottom of the 11th.

Minnesota looked poised to take the lead against Bryan Hudson in the top of the 10th when Orlando Arcia singled to right with two outs, but Rikuu Nishida erased Clemens at the plate with a strong throw. Nishida has thrown a runner out at home in each of his first two major league games.

White Sox slugger Munetaka Murakami batted with runners at the corners and one out in the bottom of the 10th but hit into a double play.

Ryan held a 2-0 lead with one out in the eighth before Murakami smacked a game-tying two-run blast, his American League-leading 19th home run of the season. Ryan retired the next batter before exiting. He yielded two runs and five hits in 7 2/3 innings with no walks and a season-high-tying nine strikeouts.

White Sox counterpart Sean Burke retired the side in order in two of the first three innings before getting in trouble in the fourth. The right-hander surrendered the only three hits he allowed all night to open the inning. Trevor Larnach led off with a double and scored on Clemens’ triple. Martin’s base hit knocked in Clemens.

Burke then regrouped. After Drew Romo erased Martin on an attempted steal, Burke notched consecutive strikeouts on the way to setting down the last 11 Twins he faced. He gave up two runs in seven innings with two walks and a season-high-tying eight strikeouts.

Chicago reliever Tyler Davis (2-2) allowed three runs, two earned, and two hits in the 11th. Taylor Rogers (1-1) got the win after pitching a scoreless 10th.

Read more The No. 1 reason Tua Tagovailoa could be the Falcons’ starting QB is already on display

Colson Montgomery and Meidroth had two hits apiece for the White Sox.

[3

post-309","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sports
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
