Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has died at the age of 29.<\/p>\n

Clarke\u2019s death was announced Tuesday by the Grizzlies and his representation, Priority Sports.<\/p>\n

NBC Los Angeles reported that his death is being investigated as a possible overdose. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call of a medical emergency shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday and paramedics declared Clarke dead after they arrived, per the report.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke,\u201d the Grizzlies said in a statement. \u201cBrandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarke played in just six games during the 2023-24 season due to a torn Achilles and suited up for just two this campaign. <\/p>\n

He was out at the start of this season due to a right knee injury. He returned in mid-December and injured his right calf in his second game.<\/p>\n

The Grizzlies ruled Clarke out for the rest of the season on March 24.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all beyond devastated by the passing of Brandon Clarke,\u201d Priority Sports said in a statement. \u201cHe was so loved by all of us here, and everyone whose life he touched. He was the gentlest soul who was the first to be there for all of his friends and family. Our hearts are so broken as we think about his mom, Whitney, his entire family, and all of his friends and teammates. From high school to San Jose State to Gonzaga to the Grizzlies, Brandon impacted everyone who was part of his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone loved BC because he was always there as the most supportive friends you could ever imagine. He was so unique in the joy he brought to all of those in his life. It\u2019s just impossible to put into words how much he\u2019ll be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n

On April 1, Clarke was arrested on four charges, including possession of and trafficking a controlled substance. <\/p>\n

He also was charged with two driving offenses \u2014 improper passing and fleeing in a vehicle or conveyance with speeding.<\/p>\n

Clarke had career averages of 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds in 309 games (50 starts) since he was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Grizzlies shortly afterward.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are devastated to learn of the passing of Brandon Clarke,\u201d NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs one of the longest-tenured members of the Grizzlies, Brandon was a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Brandon\u2019s family, friends and the Grizzlies organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are heartbroken by the tragic passing of our brother, Brandon Clarke,\u201d read a statement from NBPA executive director Andre Iguodala and union president Fred VanVleet. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an incredible loss for the brotherhood. We will remember Brandon not only for the immense joy he brought to so many throughout his career, but for the genuine friendships he built far beyond basketball. Our deepest condolences go out to Brandon\u2019s family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
