HILO \u2014 University of Hawaii at Hilo Athletics announced Elliott Cribby as next head coach of the Vulcans baseball program.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a very deep pool of candidates and after an exhaustive national search I am excited to announce and welcome Elliott Cribby to the Vulcans \u2018ohana as our new head baseball coach,\u201d Hawaii Hilo director of athletics Patrick Guillen said. \u201cWe are ecstatic to be adding someone of Elliott\u2019s caliber to our program. He has played and coached at the highest levels of collegiate athletics and has a proven track record of player recruitment and development \u2014 both across the West Coast and the nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to sincerely thank coach Garett Yukumoto, who took on the challenge this past year in leading the team on an interim basis. I have a ton of respect for him and our assistant coaches for stepping up to the plate and keeping the program moving forward. Mahalo!\u201d<\/p>\n

Cribby enters his first tenure as a collegiate head coach and brings more than a decade of Division-I experience having served associate head coach, pitching coach and recruiting coordinator roles at Abilene Christian University (2012-2013), Seattle University (2013-2018), Purdue University (2018-2019), University of Washington (2019-2022), University of the Pacific (2022-2023) and Central Washington University (2023-2024). Most recently, he\u2019s spent the last two seasons as head coach at Eastlake High School in Sammamish, Washington and with the DubSea Fish Sticks, a summer collegiate team in the Pacific International League.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an honor to be selected as the next head baseball coach at the University of Hawaii at Hilo,\u201d Cribby said. \u201cI am incredibly grateful to Patrick Guillen and the administration for their trust and belief in my vision for this program, and I do not take this responsibility lightly. I also want to thank the search committee for the time and effort they put in during this process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program has been built by many outstanding coaches, players, alumni and supporters who have invested their time, passion and pride into Vulcans Baseball. We will continue to honor that legacy and the foundation that has been poured in here. Our mission is to develop exceptional young men, compete for championships and represent the UH Hilo \u2018ohana with pride, discipline and integrity. My family and I are very excited to become a part of this community and I cannot wait to get to work. The future is bright and I am humbled and energized by this opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach Cribby shares our core values: he is deeply committed to youth outreach and building a community-centered program that our University, Big Island community and State will be proud of,\u201d Guillen said. \u201cHe will lead with integrity and be passionate about generating a positive student-athlete experience that will translate to success on and off the field. The Redmond, Washington native has recruited and developed 58 Major League Baseball draft picks and helped bring in four top-25 recruiting classes \u2014 among those included are Detroit Tigers\u2019 two-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Tarik Skubal (Seattle University), Miami Marlins starting pitcher Janson Junk (Seattle University) and Saint Louis School (Honolulu) graduate Aiva Arquette (Washington + Oregon State), who was selected No. 7 overall in last year\u2019s MLB Draft.<\/p>\n

Cribby has a proven track record of winning at every level:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Mount Si High School + Eastlake High School: 85-15 record through four seasons with a state championship in 2011 and a district championship in 2025<\/p>\n

\u2022 Seattle University: helped reach 30-plus wins three times, including a program-record 37 wins and a Western Athletic Conference championship in 2016<\/p>\n

\u2022 University of Washington: helped reach the 2023 NCAA Regional Round<\/p>\n

\u2022 DubSea Fish Sticks: 63-23 record through two seasons while claiming the 2025 Pacific International League championship<\/p>\n

Additionally, Cribby coached in the USA Baseball Tournament of Stars presented by Major League Baseball as part of the selection process for the 18U National Team, which went on to claim the gold medal in both 2015 and 2016. In 2020, he was selected to participate in the Surefire Baseball Forum matching Division-I administrators with top baseball assistant coaches across the country.<\/p>\n

Cribby becomes Vulcans Baseball\u2019s fourth head coach in program history following Joey Estrella (1977-2013), Kallen Miyataki (2014-2025) and Garett Yukumoto (2026).<\/p>\n

As a player, Cribby was a pitcher at Columbia Basin College (2004-2005) and the University of Washington (2006-2008) where he was an All-PAC-10 performer ranking seventh all-time in career saves (13) and 10th all-time in career appearances (70) with the Huskies. He recorded 10 saves in 2006, ranking sixth in the single-season program record book.<\/p>\n

In 2008 \u2014 Hawai\u2019i Hilo\u2019s final season of competing as an NCAA Division I member \u2014 the Vulcans traveled to Seattle for a three-game series against the Huskies with Cribby totaling 2.2 shutout innings with five strikeouts across two appearances. Two years prior, Cribby and the Huskies traveled to O\u2019ahu to play in UH Manoa\u2019s Rainbow Baseball Tournament where he earned the win after tossing a five-inning one-hitter with four strikeouts in an 8-7 victory over the \u2018Bows.<\/p>\n

Cribby earned both a bachelor of arts in sociology and a master of education in athletic leadership at the University of Washington and was awarded Gertrude Peoples Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Sociology Student of the Year. His father, Ed, also played for the Washington Huskies (1974-1977).<\/p>\n

When Cribby returned to coach at his alma mater in 2019, he served under head coach Lindsay Meggs (2010-2022), who most recently spent two seasons as an assistant at UH Manoa (2024-2025) under head coach Rich Hill.<\/p>\n
