Ketel Marte hit a 431-foot homer with one out in the ninth after Corbin Carroll homered in a two-run eighth as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Thursday in Phoenix to gain a split of a four-game series.<\/p>\n

Marte hit the first pitch he saw from Tanner Scott (1-3) deep down the left field line for his 11th homer of the season to cap the Diamondbacks\u2019 comeback.<\/p>\n

Carroll went deep off Will Klein to open the eighth before Gabriel Moreno walked and Ryan Wildschmidt hit a one-out single to left. Alex Vesia replaced Klein and gave up a two-out single to Geraldo Perdomo, tying the game 2-2.<\/p>\n

Carroll finished with three hits and Perdomo and Waldschmidt had two apiece for the Diamondbacks, who had lost five of their previous six games.<\/p>\n

Arizona reliever Paul Sewald (2-4) pitched around Will Smith\u2019s two-out double in the ninth.<\/p>\n

Ryan Ward and Dalton Rushing had run-scoring hits in an injury-marred fifth inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead that Justin Wrobleski nursed through six innings.<\/p>\n

The game was delayed for several minutes with two outs in the fifth inning after the Dodgers\u2019 Max Muncy collided with Arizona first baseman Ildemaro Vargas while running out a single to deep first.<\/p>\n

Muncy beat Vargas to the bag by a half-step and the two met head-on, with Muncy\u2019s forearms striking Vargas in the chest. Both remained on the ground and were attended to by medical staff before leaving the game.<\/p>\n

Muncy was removed with shortness of breath and to rule out a concussion, the Dodgers announced. Vargas was holding his left hip while on the ground and left under his own power.<\/p>\n

When play resumed, Arizona right fielder Carroll misjudged a line drive by Ward that went over his head for a double, scoring pinch runner Santiago Espinal for the first run.<\/p>\n

Center fielder Waldschmidt misjudged Rushing\u2019s high pop into left-center that fell for the single to drive in Ward for a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Wrobleski gave up six hits and struck out four without a walk in six scoreless innings for the Dodgers, who had won 16 of their prior 20 games.<\/p>\n

Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson gave up two runs on five hits in seven innings. He logged three strikeouts and two walks.<\/p>\n

Nelson retired the first 12 he faced on 43 pitches before Kyle Tucker singled to right leading off the fifth. Tucker was erased on a double play, bringing up Muncy.<\/p>\n

Cubs 7, Athletics 6 <\/p>\n

Dansby Swanson delivered the tying single and Pete Crow-Armstrong followed with the game-winning hit as the Chicago Cubs scored four times in the bottom of the ninth inning to post a 7-6 victory over the visiting Athletics on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Crow-Armstrong also hit a solo homer and Ian Happ slammed a two-run blast and had three RBIs for the Cubs, who won for just the fourth time in their past 18 games.<\/p>\n

The Athletics\u2019 Shea Langeliers hit two homers, including an inside-the-parker. Tyler Soderstrom and Jonah Heim also went deep for the A\u2019s, who were unable to sweep the three-game series.<\/p>\n

A\u2019s reliever Joel Kuhnel (1-2) failed to protect a three-run lead in the ninth. Ryan Rolison (4-1) struck out three in 1 2\/3 hitless innings for Chicago.<\/p>\n

Jazz Chisholm Jr. scored the tiebreaking run on Ryan McMahon\u2019s two-out single in the seventh inning as New York prevented Cleveland from recording its first sweep at Yankee Stadium since August 2017.<\/p>\n

The Yankees played the three-game series without Aaron Judge (rib injury). New York left-hander Carlos Rodon allowed one run on two hits in six innings. Brent Headrick (4-1) stranded a runner in the seventh. David Bednar notched his 13th save in 15 chances by getting three groundouts in the ninth.<\/p>\n

The Guardians\u2019 Jose Ramirez went 1-for-4 after posting consecutive three-hit games. Ramirez finished the series 7-for-13 and scored on a single by Stuart Fairchild in the fourth. Codi Heuer (0-1), in relief of Cleveland starter Slade Cecconi, allowed the go-ahead run.<\/p>\n

Phillies 6, Padres 4 <\/p>\n

Zack Wheeler worked seven strong innings as host Philadelphia completed a season sweep of San Diego.<\/p>\n

After capturing all three matchups in San Diego last week, the Phillies took care of business at home. Wheeler (5-1) allowed two runs walks while striking out eight. Adolis Garcia homered for the Phillies, while Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm each collected two hits and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill each belted a two-run homer for the Padres, who have lost nine of 10. San Diego starter Lucas Giolito (2-1) allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits over four innings.<\/p>\n

Orioles 8,
\nRed Sox 2 <\/p>\n

Baltimore rolled to a six-run first inning and never looked back, scoring a comfortable win at Boston.<\/p>\n

The Orioles logged five of their 10 hits in the big inning, including Coby Mayo\u2019s three-run double. Taylor Ward went 3-for-5, while Pete Alonso finished 2-for-4. Trevor Rogers pitched 5 2\/3 innings of one-run ball, breaking an eight-game winless skid.<\/p>\n

Willson Contreras drove in both Red Sox runs on an RBI single in the sixth and a solo homer in the ninth. Brayan Bello (2-6) was tagged for eight runs on seven hits in five innings.<\/p>\n

Royals 8, Twins 6 <\/p>\n

Pinch hitter Josh Rojas ripped a tiebreaking two-run single up the middle in the top of the ninth inning, and Kansas City held on for a win over Minnesota in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n

Carter Jensen hit a two-run double for the Royals, who earned their third win in four games. Michael Massey finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Matt Strahm (2-1) tossed a scoreless inning of relief, and Alex Lange collected his second save with a scoreless ninth.<\/p>\n

Kody Clemens hit two solo shots for the Twins, who have lost seven of the past nine. Victor Caratini went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBIs, and Byron Buxton also went deep.<\/p>\n

Pirates 5, Astros 1 <\/p>\n

Ryan O\u2019Hearn slugged a two-run homer as part of a four-run sixth inning and visiting Pittsburgh topped Houston to claim the rubber match of a three-game series.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Hearn went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Pirates, who have won eight of 11 games. In just his second appearance since missing the 2025 season with an elbow injury, Pirates right-hander Jared Jones (1-0) worked five scoreless innings.<\/p>\n

Kai-Wei Teng (3-4) gave up a season-worst five runs (four earned) on a season-high seven hits over five innings for the Astros, who fell to 2-4 on their nine-game homestand. Isaac Paredes led off the sixth with his 100th career home run.\n<\/p>\n
