A 48-year-old Volcano man pleaded not guilty Monday to seven counts of failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.<\/p>\n

A 48-year-old Volcano man pleaded not guilty Monday to seven counts of failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.<\/p>\n

Hilo Circuit Judge Peter Kubota maintained bail for Brian Taylor-Rose at $140,000 and ordered him to appear July 1 for a hearing, trial-setting and appointment of legal counsel.<\/p>\n

Taylor-Rose was charged with the offenses May 20 via felony information complaint \u2014 a document in which a judge determines that there is a factual basis for the charges. Taylor-Rose allegedly failed to comply with sex offender requirements between January 2025 and May 2026.<\/p>\n

According to a statement by county Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen, Taylor-Rose has prior felony convictions in Washington state for second- and third-degree child molestation.<\/p>\n

Failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements is a Class C felony offense that carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment.<\/p>\n

Taylor-Rose has another active felony case before Kubota involving charges filed last month for offenses that allegedly occurred last August.<\/p>\n

In that case, Taylor-Rose is charged with first- and second-degree theft, second-degree identity theft, second-degree forgery, and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information. He\u2019s pleaded not guilty to all charges.<\/p>\n

The most serious charge in that case, first-degree theft, is a Class B felony offense that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment. The other offenses are all Class C felonies.<\/p>\n

Taylor-Rose has a court date of Aug. 17 for \u201cfurther proceedings\u201d in that case.<\/p>\n

Taylor-Rose remains in custody in Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of bail.<\/p>\n
