Man charged with attempted murder following a shooting in Mountain View

Police have charged 35-year-old Kawika Ah Nee with second-degree attempted murder after he allegedly shot a Hilo man in Mountain View.

Ah Nee also was charged Wednesday with carrying or using a firearm in the commission of a separate felony and one ammunition offense.

His bail was set at $1.753 million, and he is scheduled to make his initial court appearance today in Hilo District Court.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning.

At 1:37 a.m., Puna patrol officers responded to a report of a man who had been shot multiple times in front of a residence in the 18-1200 block of Waikiki Street in the Livingston subdivision.

The victim, a 53-year-old Hilo man, was transported by ambulance to Hilo Benioff Medical Center in critical condition before being flown to Oahu for further treatment.

Later that morning, Ah Nee was located and arrested without incident.

A police press release about the shooting did not provide a possible motive.
