In what’s been a relatively busy hurricane season in the Pacific, forecasters are keeping an eye on two weather disturbances, including one developing in the Central Pacific.
Of the most immediate concern is what forecasters described as a “nearly stationary” broad area of low pressure about 1,100 miles east-southeast of the islands that is producing showers and thundershowers.
Environmental conditions for this disturbance — which, for now, has been dubbed “CP93” — are forecast to be conducive for further development into a cyclone, and a tropical depression or storm is expected to form this week as the system begins moving northwest across the Central Pacific.
Forecasters said there’s a 60% chance of the disturbance becoming a cyclone in the next 48 hours, and a 90% chance of the front becoming a cyclone within a week.

“Interests in the Hawaiian Islands should closely monitor the progress of the system,” wrote Richard Pasch, senior hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center in Miami, in a statement about the low-pressure system.
If it becomes a tropical storm or hurricane, CP93 will be renamed “Lala.”
The second disturbance is in the East Pacific and is described as a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
Environmental conditions for that disturbance — which forecasters call “Disturbance 2” — appear conducive for some gradual development and could mean a tropical depression could form during the next few days while the system moves slowly northwest across the East Pacific.
Forecasters rate the chances of Disturbance 2 becoming a tropical cyclone as 30% in the next 48 hours and 60% in the next week.
