Julio Rodriguez returned to the lineup and hit a sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Seattle Mariners a 4-3 walk-off victory against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Saturday.

Cole Young added a three-run homer for the Mariners, who won for just the second time in their past eight games.

Rafael Devers and Willy Adames hit solo shots for the Giants, who had their winning streak snapped at three games.

After the Giants failed to score in the top of the 10th off Jose A. Ferrer (3-1), Victor Robles started the bottom of the inning as the automatic runner at second base. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by rookie Colt Emerson and, following a walk to J.P. Crawford, scored on Rodriguez’s liner to left off Dylan Smith (0-2). Rodriguez was activated from the 7-day concussion injured list earlier in the day.

The Giants opened the scoring with an unearned run in the third inning. Drew Gilbert led off by grounding a single into right field. One out later, Luis Arraez hit a grounder to the right side of the infield. First baseman Josh Naylor couldn’t quite reach the ball, but second baseman Young made a diving stop on the outfield grass. With pitcher Bryan Woo covering first, Young got to his feet and made an errant throw, though Arraez was awarded an infield single by the official scorer. Bryce Eldridge lined a single to center, with Gilbert scoring from second when outfielder Luke Raley bobbled the ball and was charged with an error.

San Francisco extended its lead to 3-0 in the sixth. Devers led off with a fly ball down the left field line off Mariners starter Bryan Woo that was originally called foul. The umpires huddled and changed the call to a home run, with replays showing the ball cleared the fence a foot or so inside the foul pole. Two outs later, Adames went deep down the right field line.

The Mariners had just one hit – a leadoff single by Young on a soft liner to left in the third – through the first six innings off All-Star Logan Webb.

Randy Arozarena was hit by a pitch with one out in the seventh and Josh Naylor walked, giving the Mariners their first runner in scoring position. After a Cal Raleigh flyout, Young hit an 0-1 sweeper into the seats in right-center to tie the score at 3-3.

Neither starter factored into the decision despite quality outings.

Webb gave up three runs on two hits over 6 2/3 innings, issuing one walk and striking out five. Woo allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in six innings, walking two and fanning seven.

Tarik Skubal scattered five hits over seven innings and Spencer Torkelson homered twice and drove in four runs to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 7-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Skubal (6-5) struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter while allowing only one runner past first base. He left after throwing 87 pitches, 60 for strikes.

Colt Keith went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Kevin McGonigle had a double among his two hits and two runs scored for Detroit, which won for the 11th time in its last 14 games.

Logan O’Hoppe had two hits for Los Angeles, which lost its fourth straight game and for the 12th time in its last 14 games. It was also a major league-leading 61st loss for the Angels.

Grayson Rodriguez (3-3), who entered the contest with a 2-0 record and 0.60 ERA in three career starts against the Tigers, took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings. He walked one and struck out three.

Detroit jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. McGonigle led off with a double to center, Dillon Dingler was hit by a pitch and Keith then drove in McGonigle with a single to center. After Riley Greene struck out, Torkelson drilled a three-run homer 415 feet to left-center.

The Tigers extended the advantage to 6-0 in the second inning when James Outman and McGonigle opened with singles and Dingler was hit by a pitch again to load the bases. Keith and Greene then followed with back-to-back sacrifice flies to drive in Outman and McGonigle.

Torkelson made it 7-0 when he led off the fifth with his second homer of the game and 18th of the season, a 420-foot drive over the center field fence off left-handed reliever Brent Suter.

Athletics end
losing streak with demolition of Nats

Jacob Wilson homered during a three-hit outing, Tyler Soderstrom and Carlos Cortes also went deep and the Athletics broke a 10-game slide with a 15-1 beatdown of the Washington Nationals on Saturday night at West Sacramento, Calif.

J.T. Ginn took a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the Athletics, who bounced back from a 23-4 loss in Friday’s opener of the three-game set.

Shea Langeliers drove in three runs and Wilson, Soderstrom, Cortes, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer and Jeff McNeil each drove in two for the Athletics, who lost their previous four games by a cumulative score of 47-6. McNeil had three hits.

Keibert Ruiz had two of the Nationals’ four hits as the club lost for the seventh time in its past 10 games. Washington received a sacrifice fly in the ninth from Jorbit Vivas to score at least once for the 69th straight game.

Ginn (8-6) reached 6 1/3 no-hit innings after second baseman Donovan Walton made a diving stop of CJ Abrams’ rocket-like grounder to open the seventh.

Ginn got ahead with a strike on Ruiz before the Washington catcher lined a clean single to center to break up the no-hitter. Athletics manager Mark Kotsay then quickly pulled Ginn after just 82 pitches.

He struck out seven and walked three.

Washington’s Zack Littell (7-7) was torched for eight runs and eight hits over six innings. He struck out four, walked four and served up two homers to raise his season count to 25 allowed.

One night after Washington matched the second-best scoring output in franchise history, the script was revised in favor of the A’s, who came out of the gates fast with five runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Wilson led off by hitting the first pitch from Littell over the wall in left. Soderstrom followed with a single and scored on a one-out double by Cortes. Kuroda-Grauer added a run-scoring double to make it 3-0. Walton walked before Jonah Heim delivered a run-scoring single. Lawrence Butler’s fielder’s choice plated the final run of the inning.

The Athletics loaded the bases with one out in the second and added on when Kuroda-Grauer hustled to first to avoid hitting into a double play as Wilson scored to make it 6-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, McNeil reached on a one-out infield hit. Soderstrom came up with two outs and belted a homer to right-center to create an eight-run margin.

Cortes ripped a homer to left off Max Kranick to lead off the seventh to make it 9-0. McNeil and Wilson added RBI singles later.

The bases were loaded later in the inning when Langeliers hit a deep drive to right.

James Wood was at the wall but seemed to have trouble tracking the downward flight and the ball landed to his right for a double as the bases cleared to make it 14-0.

The 6-foot-6 Wood reached high above the short wall in right in the eighth to rob Lawrence Butler of a three-run blast. McNeill had an RBI single later in the inning.

Red Sox rally in 7th to extend win streak to 12 games

Wilyer Abreu homered twice to help the Boston Red Sox extend their winning streak to 12 games by beating the visiting Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 on Saturday.

Abreu hit a solo home run in the third, then a two-run homer off reliever Garrett Cleavinger (2-3) that erased a 6-5 deficit in the seventh. Abreu also homered twice in Boston’s 5-3 victory in the second game of a doubleheader Friday.

Reliever Ryan Watson (1-0) collected the win. He gave up a run on one hit in two innings. Aroldis Chapman walked two with two outs in the ninth, but earned his 21st save when Jonny DeLuca grounded out to shortstop to end the game.

Boston also received a two-run home run from Jahmai Jones.

Victor Mesa Jr. and DeLuca each hit a solo home run for Tampa Bay. Mesa’s homer was part of a three-run fourth inning that gave the Rays a 5-3 lead. DeLuca’s home run made it 6-3 in the seventh.

The Rays took a 2-0 lead in the second. Ryan Vilade scored on a throwing error by second baseman Anthony Seigler, and it was 2-0 after Nick Fortes drove in Chandler Simpson with a single to right.

Boston tied the game when Jones homered after Andruw Monasterio drew a two-out walk.

The first of Abreu’s two home runs put Boston up 3-2.

Simpson tied the game in the fourth when he doubled, stole third and scored on a throwing error by catcher Carlos Narvaez. Mesa homered later in the inning to give the Rays a 4-3 advantage, and Tampa Bay stretched its lead to 5-3 on a two-out single by Yandy Diaz that drove in Richie Palacios.

After DeLuca’s home run handed the Rays a three-run lead in the top of the seventh, the Red Sox scored four times in the bottom half of the inning. Monasterio scored from third on Masataka Yoshida’s groundout, Ceddanne Rafaela’s double drove in Jarren Duran to make it 6-5 and then Abreu capped the scoring with his two-run homer.
