Downtown Hilo to get new streetlights

The Hawaii County Department of Public Works has announced that work to install eight new streetlights in downtown Hilo will begin today.

Installation will occur along the storefronts on Kamehameha Avenue between Mamo and Haili streets. Work is scheduled to occur between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday-Friday and will last about two weeks.

During the project, the public should be aware of large equipment in the area. Parking stalls within the work zone will be temporarily unavailable.

The project is being conducted by Leleiwi Electric and DPW’s Traffic Division.
