Kyle Tucker hit a go-ahead two-run single in the fifth inning, Tarik Skubal had 11 strikeouts over seven innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 4-3 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night.

Teoscar Hernandez and Alek Thomas each had RBI singles for the Dodgers, who extended their winning streak to five games for their longest run since a six-game streak in May.

Skubal (8-7) gave up all three of his runs allowed in the first inning before recovering to earn his first win in four starts since joining the Dodgers from the Detroit Tigers just before the trade deadline. The left-hander’s 11 strikeouts were one off his season high.

Oneil Cruz had a two-run triple and Los Angeles-area native Jared Jones gave up two runs on three hits over four innings as the Pirates fell to 0-2 at the start of a nine-game road trip.

Pittsburgh went on the attack against Skubal early. Esmerlyn Valdez and Bryan Reynolds each had one-out singles in the first inning and Cruz followed with his two-run triple to right field. Rafael Flores Jr. added a run-scoring groundout to bring home Cruz for a 3-0 lead.

The Pirates got back-to-back singles from Nick Yorke and Jared Triolo to lead off the second, but a sacrifice bunt from Henry Davis started a run of 11 consecutive outs from Skubal.

The Dodgers pulled to within 3-2 in the fourth inning on RBI singles from Hernandez and Thomas. It was the Los Angeles debut for Thomas, who was recalled earlier Saturday after Andy Pages went down with a broken left hand Friday.

Tucker gave the Dodgers a 4-3 lead in the fifth with his two-run single off right-hander Yohan Ramirez (6-4). It was the first hit in 27 home at-bats for the high-priced free-agent addition in the offseason.

Dodgers left-hander Jack Dreyer struck out Cruz with the tying run at third base in the eighth inning. Left-hander Tanner Scott pitched the ninth for his 19th save.

Pirates right-hander Camilo Doval was ejected after the sixth inning following an exchange of words with home-plate umpire Alfonso Marquez.

Randy Arozarena comes up big as
Mariners come
back to edge Cubs

Randy Arozarena hit two home runs — including a two-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning — and robbed another as the Seattle Mariners rallied for a 5-4 victory against the visiting Chicago Cubs on Saturday.

With two outs in the ninth, Weston Wilson doubled to right-center field off Cubs closer Jacob Webb (6-3). Leo Rivas blooped a single to right, scoring Wilson, and Arozarena followed with a walk-off blast to straightaway center.

Arozarena hit the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning out to left-center and leaped at the wall to bring back what would’ve been a solo shot from the Cubs’ Miguel Amaya in the third.

Arozarena’s heroics lifted the Mariners to their fifth victory in seven games and prevented prized prospect Kade Anderson from taking a loss in his major league debut. The Cubs lost their third straight.

Mariners reliever Michael Rucker (1-4) got the victory with a scoreless ninth.

Alex Bregman and Michael Busch hit back-to-back homers in the sixth to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead and end Anderson’s debut.

Anderson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 MLB draft, allowed just one baserunner through the first three innings — a two-out walk to Tyrone Taylor in the second.

The Cubs’ first hit was a bloop single to center by Seiya Suzuki leading off the fourth.

Chicago tied it at 1-1 in the fifth after Taylor drew a leadoff walk and stole second. Pedro Ramirez grounded a single to left and Kevin Alcantara followed with a sacrifice fly to right.

The Mariners regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Wilson lined a single to right, Rivas was hit by a pitch and Arozarena legged out an infield single to load the bases with no outs. Wilson scored as Dominic Canzone grounded into a forceout.

Despite a pitch count at 72 — Anderson’s largest in the minors this season was 80 — the Mariners sent the left-hander back out to the mound in the sixth to face the top of the Cubs’ batting order for a third time.

Pete Crow-Armstrong led off with a double high off the wall in right. Suzuki grounded out to third, with Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor throwing out Crow-Armstrong, who strayed too far off the bag, at second for a double play.

Bregman hit a first-pitch changeup deep to left-center and Busch deposited the next pitch, a slider, over the fence in right-center to end Anderson’s outing. Reliever Carlos Vargas, making his season debut, allowed back-to-back doubles by Nico Hoerner and Taylor to give the Cubs a 4-2 lead.

Anderson went 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out five.

Red Sox rally in 9th, score 3 to stun Giants

Eli White slid home with the winning run on Wilyer Abreu’s fielder’s choice, as the Boston Red Sox erased a 2-0, ninth-inning deficit and walked off with a 3-2 win over the visiting San Francisco Giants on Saturday night.

With the bases loaded, Giants first baseman Bryce Eldridge made a great diving stop on Abreu’s low liner, but his throw pulled catcher Andrew Knizner’s foot off home plate as he tried to complete the force play.

White broke San Francisco’s shutout bid with a one-out single up the middle off Sam Hentges (1-6), scoring Caleb Durbin, who went 2-for-3 before drawing a leadoff walk that sparked the game-turning rally. Nick Sogard followed immediately with a game-tying double to left.

Wyatt Olds (1-0) recorded four outs to nab his first career victory.

In the top of the ninth, San Francisco had the bases loaded after a single and two walks, but Sogard’s diving catch at second base robbed Eldridge of a hit that would have padded a two-run lead.

The Giants were in full control until the ninth, as Blade Tidwell struck out a career-high seven in 5 2/3 shutout innings and Willy Adames (2-for-4) and Knizner (3-for-4) both hit solo home runs the first time through the batting order against Boston’s Patrick Sandoval.

The duo combined for five of San Francisco’s eight hits.

The Red Sox had a runner in scoring position only once before Mickey Gasper’s leadoff double in the eighth, but Dylan Smith worked through a bases-loaded, no-out jam to end that inning without any damage.

After back-to-back homers helped the Giants back into the series opener on Friday, Adames gave them an early 1-0 lead with a two-out solo shot over the Green Monster in the first inning. The shortstop has now eclipsed the 20-homer plateau in six straight seasons.

Tidwell made the early offense stand tall, striking out the side in order in Boston’s first at-bats before brushing off base hits in each of the following three innings.
