Blanche Dora Freitas Angay, 77, of Mountain View died Aug. 24 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Ka‘u, she was a retired public school cafeteria worker. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Wednesday (Sep. 16) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Service at 6 p.m. Visitation again 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Service at 10:30 a.m. Burial noon at Homelani Memorial Park. Survived by son, Steven (Melissa) Angay Jr. of Lexington Park, Md.; brother, Roy P. Freitas of Maui; sisters, Rosemarie Freitas Angay of Kona and Bernadette Dianne Freitas Kawailima of Keaukaha; three grandchildren; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. James Allen Botelho, 64, of Pahoa died July 22 at home. Born in California, he was a retired Hawaii County Police officer and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Private services. David Manu‘a Heaukulani, 88, of Hilo died Aug. 22 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Kalopa, he was a retired Honolulu Police Department assistant chief, former executive officer at Pohakuloa Training Center and member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I. Visitation 8:30-9 a.m. Wednesday, Sep. 23 at Ballard Family Mortuary. Military honors 11:30 a.m. at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Burial at noon. Survived by wife, Gay Ashida Heaukulani; sons, Jeffrey (Avidan) Heaukulani and Creighton Koa Heaukulani; daughters, Heather (Ben) Grimmer and Jodi (Marco) Heaukulani; sister-in-law Eunice Muramoto; brother-in-law Lincoln Ashida; four grandchildren; cousins.

Born in Cambodia, she was a former seamstress and a philanthropist in Cambodia helping to build schools and temples and member of Wat Khmer Hawaii Buddharam. Visitation and funeral service 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 20, at Wat Khmer Hawaii Buddharam, 15-1435 20th Ave. in Keaau. Cremation to follow. Traditional Khmer attire in white. Survived by children, Bunthoeun (Seap Sy) Vin, Bunthy (Michael) Trentman, Sokha (Run Chan) Kol, Bunthan (Leland Andrew) Short, Bunthen (Monika) Vin, Janet Bunthann You, Narin (Thideth) You and Todd Buntha (Sokha Koeu-Vin) Vin; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Bruce Ray Kahiapoakapoki‘i Rogee, 30, of Hilo died Oct. 7, 2025, in Arizona.
