Prized prospect Kade Anderson pitched six quality innings to earn his first major league victory as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Texas Rangers 3-2 Wednesday afternoon.

Cole Young hit a tiebreaking two-run double for the Mariners (68-78), who evened the series between the American League West rivals at one game apiece with the rubber match set for Thursday.

Jake Burger and Corey Seager hit solo homers for the Rangers (72-74), whose two-game winning streak was snapped as they try to chase down Houston in the division and Cleveland in the AL’s wild-card race.

Anderson (1-1), the third overall pick in the 2025 draft after leading LSU to the College World Series championship, was making his fourth start in the majors. The left-hander allowed one run on six hits, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Closer Andres Munoz worked the ninth, striking out a pair, for his 26th save of the season.

Burger led off the top of the second inning by hitting a 2-1 fastball from Anderson into the second row of seats in right-center field.

The Mariners tied it in the bottom of the frame. Cal Raleigh drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on Josh Naylor’s foul out to catcher Elias Diaz, who made a diving catch against the brick-covered wall behind the plate. Taylor Ward lined a two-out RBI single to center to tie it at 1.

The Mariners took the lead in the fourth. With two outs, Naylor grounded a single to center and Ward walked. Young doubled off the wall in right, the ball ricocheting past outfielder Brandon Nimmo to allow both runners to score for a 3-1 advantage.

Seager led off the eighth by hitting a first-pitch sinker from reliever Gabe Speier just over the left field fence, cutting Seattle’s lead to a run.

Rangers starter Cody Bradford (0-5) went four innings and gave up three runs on four hits. The lefty walked two and struck out one.

Wednesday’s game was moved up to a 1:10 p.m. local time start because the Seattle Seahawks are opening the NFL season against the New England Patriots at 5:20 p.m. across the street at Lumen Field in a Super Bowl rematch.

Dodgers defeat Cincinnati Reds

Mookie Betts hit an early two-run home run and Yoshinobu Yamamoto fanned 10 in seven strong innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to a season-high seven games with a 14-1 victory over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.

Teoscar Hernandez remained hot with two hits and two RBIs as the Dodgers (89-57) won with designated hitter Shohei Ohtani out of the lineup with knee and biceps discomfort. Ohtani has missed six of the past seven games. Freddie Freeman also was out due to knee discomfort.

Yamamoto (13-8) gave up one run on three hits and one walk as Los Angeles swept the three-game series. Betts and Kyle Tucker each had three hits for the Dodgers, who completed a 7-2 homestand ahead of their final multi-city road trip of the season.

Tucker, Max Muncy and Enrique Hernandez added homers for Los Angeles.

Elly De La Cruz extended his home run streak to five games as the Reds (69-77) fell to 0-3 on a six-game trip. Cincinnati entered the series having just gone 6-3 against a trio of playoff contenders, the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers.

Reds right-hander Rhett Lowder (6-10) allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four.

The Dodgers grabbed a 1-0 lead when Alex Freeland grounded into a run-scoring double play in the second inning. Betts made it 3-0 in the third with a home run to left, his 19th of the season and third in his past seven games.

De La Cruz hit a home run off Yamamoto in the fourth, one day after going deep against fellow ace Tarik Skubal. His 26 long balls on the season are a career high.

The Dodgers put the game away in the fourth inning with six runs. The frame featured an RBI double from Freeland, a two-run double from Enrique Hernandez, a wild pitch that scored a run and a two-run single from Teoscar Hernandez.

It was a career-best seventh consecutive game with an RBI for Teoscar Hernandez.

Max Muncy added a two-run home run in the sixth for Los Angeles, and Enrique Hernandez hit a two-run shot in the seventh. Kyle Tucker went deep with Reds catcher Jose Trevino on the mound in the eighth.
