Honokaa man accused of using social media to solicit sex from minor

Police have arrested and charged a 23-year-old Honokaa man for allegedly using a social media platform to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.

Kainalu Palik was arrested Monday without incident. He was charged Tuesday with first-degree electronic enticement of a child. He remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear Thursday in Kona District Court.

According to police, the investigation was initiated June 17 after a report that Palik had exchanged sexually explicit messages with a 14-year-old girl over the course of several days using Snapchat.

First-degree electronic enticement of a child is a Class B felony offense punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment, upon conviction.
